Description & Provenance

Both albite and muscovite are minerals that are commonly found around the world. In specimens, they typically serve as secondary, associated minerals that complement a primary crystal of an alternate species. This is due to the fact that even when albite or muscovite crystalizes well, they rarely exhibit an overall form that is anything more than an aggregate mass. This is a very unusual specimen where both mineral species take center stage. Here, the muscovite has formed in a distinct and prominent rhombohedral form that serves as an anchor and focal point for the composition. With its charcoal-brown and shiny luster, the muscovite is reflective and highly attractive. Just askew is a rectangular albite formation that has an almost feathered texture, created by tightly clustered bladed crystals. Atop that is another albite cluster and another rhombohedral formation of muscovite in a gravity-defying totem of structures. The juxtaposition of the two very different species is dramatic, the lustrous, dark muscovite crystals are beautifully contrasted by the white, bladed albite crystals. Each species manages to showcase their own unique colors and textures, while also marrying together beautifully to create a sculptural composition that resembles a work of modern art.
