Schorl is the black, opaque variation of the mineral tourmaline. It typically takes on many of the quintessential characteristics of its species such as an elongated, prismatic form with striated faces. It is also prone to a flattened termination (sometimes, it is so smooth and so flat people find it difficult to believe it forms naturally). Despite schorl’s elemental make-up and form, it is often viewed as though it were a separate mineral from other variations of tourmaline because of its singular aesthetics, namely, the intensity of its jet-black color and its ultimate opacity. This sleek and modern look has garnered schorl its own following among mineral collectors around the world. This is an in incredible combination of schorl and white albite. It boasts a magnificent contrast between the inky black coloration of the schorl and the stark, white coloration of the albite. The schorl stands upright with excellent form that is accentuated by its striated faces and smooth termination. These two lustrous minerals marry together beautifully within this specimen, creating a dramatic display that makes a big visual impact.
