Description & Provenance

Scheelite is a common ore in China, however, collector-grade scheelite is only found in one notable locale, Mt. Xuebaoding, China. It is not only the best locality among Chinese varieties of the species, but the producer of the finest scheelite specimens in the world. This is an excellent example from the famous locale that exhibits all the characteristics for which the species is loved. It has two, well-sized crystals with a pseudo-octahedral habit in di-pyramidal forms. The scheelite also has exceptional, vibrant orange coloring, and a glassy luster. Adding to the presence of this specimen is the fact that it sits upon a matrix (host rock) composed of a cluster of silvery-bladed muscovite. The contrasting color and texture of the matrix accentuates the wonderfully gem-like appearance of the scheelite crystals, and allows them to really pop.
